HET EYLANT FORMOSA
From 1624-1662 the Dutch people had a colony on the island of Formosa (Taiwan) with their East India Company (VOC).
It became an important location for trade with other parts of Asia such as Japan and China,
on top of that it was important in the connection with the main colony Batavia (Jakarta).
Nowadays in Holland this history is not so familiar anymore. Since it was the first colony Holland lost it became shameful and the focus went
out to the succes of Batavia which remained a colony long after Formosa was lost.
By using local crafts to make visualizations of local history, this story can be told in a special way.
More project photography coming soon.
